WELCOME...WILLKOMMEN...TO PANNONIA PRESS Pannonia Press was created to publish a book. A book entitled BAREFOOT IN THE RUBBLE. I wrote this book because it is a story that very few people know about. It is a story that was experienced by people from 1945 to 1950, after World War II. More than 15 Million people were persecuted all over Eastern Europe - Why? Because we were Ethnic Germans. We became scapegoats for the Communist World. More than 2 Million perished. My story is not unique, it is one that many people experienced, but few have told. In 1989, I decided to write my family's story down in hopes that a publisher would put it in print. I started to send out one manuscript after another... but after over 30 rejections... PANNONIA PRESS was born. PANNONIA is what the Romans called an area that is now a part of Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Romania. My people come from this region - we are known as DONAUSCHWABEN or DANUBE SWABIANS. We were the first ethnically cleansed from Yugoslavia by Marshall Tito in 1945. Elizabeth B. Walter |
